Jonte is a handsome, very sedate little Jacob bottle lamb who lost one ear early in his little life. You really can't even tell though. He has 5 horns (yep, five) and it kind of hides the fact his ear is shorter than the other. Who cares anyway right? :0)
We purchased Jonte from friends for his cute factor. His best friends are the Shetlands he spends countless hours playing tag and king of the hill with.... too fun!
Jonte has a little crush on our Shetland sheep Sunshine!
His Jacob fleece is a 'lilac' color, ranges from ecru/white to spots of lilac/silver/brown. Very pretty with locks of 3 inches, and very soft! Not your typical Jacob wool that is for sure!
Jonte has been hanging out with our Foster sheep lately. They are kind of an odd looking pair since Foster is so much bigger. Jonte keeps breaking off his horns playing too rough with the other sheep. He's pretty macho. In a way I am glad (once the bleeding is done) because the Jacobs grow such HUGE horns and I really feel bad when they can't sleep comfortably because they are so heavy. Guess he thinks like I do? Doubt it! He is always happy for a treat and a scratch on the chin and always a very busy, happy (sassy) fellow!
2016 Update: Mr. Jonte will turn 9 years old in April. Already? Whoa. He is still a very busy, bossy fellow. A few of his Shetland friends have passed on now but he is still best buds with Pipi (Jacob) and Becan (Shetland). I still say he has a crush on Pipi but they both deny any clandestine goings on.
I think Jonte is lucky that he plays so rough with the other sheep boys. He has 5 horns and I always worry he will get such big horns he'll never be able to sleep comfortably. I say he's lucky because the rough play keeps knocking the tops of his 2 horns that grow straight up right off. Not pretty when it happens though. Jonte just walks around like he's wearing blood like a badge of honor. Big man on campus. Tee hee! I think that part is worse on me than him. Going out to find blood on sheep and trying to find the source is a little shocking. At least it doesn't happen often!
Jonte has decided he likes bread- a LOT. Specially if it is natural grain, with oats on top. He cracks me up!
2017 update: I can't believe it is already fall? Well, actually winter is approaching much faster than we need it to. We are never ready for winter, no matter how great our intentions! The sheep are definitely ready for cold weather. Jonte's looking like a big marshmallow. Jonte still loves his Pipi sheep, however, he really wishes his friend Trillium could be part of his group of sheep. She would love to do that but she has 3 legs and one that is very deformed. She gets around fine but would not do well in the larger part of our flock. Instead, they chat over the fence every day. Such sweet peas!
